Heat shrink film is applied loosely around a product then passed through a heat tunnel or shrunk with a heat gun. Polyolefin (POF) shrink film is the most widely used format for retail and food applications — clear, flexible, FDA-compliant, and producing a high-gloss finish. PVC shrink film is used predominantly for non-food items including stationery, hardware, cosmetics, and gifts, where a stiffer and more economical film is appropriate. Shrink bags — pre-formed bags that shrink around irregular products — are also available for lower-volume applications.
Beyond heat-shrink applications, polythene film is available as lay-flat tubing, centre-fold sheeting, and gusseted tubing across a wide range of gauges. Heavy-gauge polythene sheeting is used for pallet covers, dust sheets, building protection, and weather protection during outdoor storage or open-vehicle transit. Polythene bags and tubing are used across food, agriculture, manufacturing, and retail to contain, protect, and transport everything from bulk materials to finished products.
Transit or pallet shrink film uses thicker-gauge polythene applied to pallets with a heat source — primarily to weatherproof loads stored outdoors or shipped on open vehicles. Unlike stretch film, transit shrink film creates a fully sealed, weather-resistant envelope around the pallet. This format is particularly common in building, construction, and agricultural sectors.

Stretch wrap (pallet wrap) is applied by stretching the film under tension around a load — no heat required. Shrink wrap is applied loosely and then heated to contract tightly around the product, creating a more weather-resistant, tamper-evident seal.
Polyolefin (POF) film is softer, more flexible, food-safe, and produces a superior gloss finish — the standard choice for retail and food applications. PVC is stiffer and less expensive, typically used for non-food items where a high-quality finish is less critical.
A heat tunnel gives the most consistent results for volume applications, but a hand-held heat gun is sufficient for low volumes or irregular-shaped items. We can advise on both options depending on your throughput requirements.
Lighter gauges (15–25 micron) suit inner wrapping, bags, and low-weight applications. Heavier gauges (100 micron and above) are used for pallet covers, dust protection, and outdoor weather resistance. Our team can advise on the right gauge for your application.
