Strapping & Pallet Banding

New Wooden Pallets

Strapping is one of the most reliable ways to reinforce and secure pallets, bundles, and heavy loads for transit. Whether you’re banding timber, stabilising a mixed pallet, or securing goods for export, the right strapping material keeps loads intact from warehouse to final destination — and the right tools make the job fast, safe, and repeatable.

Three Core Materials

APS supplies strapping in the three principal materials used across UK warehousing and logistics. Polypropylene (PP) strapping is the most widely used option — lightweight, cost-effective, and suitable for light to medium loads. Polyester (PET) strapping steps up in strength for heavier applications, offering high break resistance and excellent tension retention over time. Steel strapping is reserved for the most demanding loads: rigid, sharp-cornered, or extremely heavy goods where maximum holding force and minimal elongation are essential.

Tools, Seals & Accessories

Strapping alone isn’t enough — you need the right seals, buckles, and tools to complete the job safely and efficiently. APS stocks metal and plastic seals for all standard strap widths, hand tensioning tools, combination tools that tension and seal in one operation, and battery-powered automatic tensioners for high-throughput environments. Dispensers and coil stands are also available to keep your workstation organised and ergonomic.

Applications Across Industries

Strapping is used across a wide range of sectors. Timber and builders’ merchants secure boards and brickwork for delivery; manufacturers band product runs and raw materials; logistics providers reinforce mixed pallets before loading; exporters use heavy-duty PET or steel strapping to ensure loads survive long-distance transit. PP strapping is also frequently used for bundling printed materials, newspapers, and recyclables.

FAQ

Some questions answered

PP (polypropylene) is lightweight, lower cost, and suited to light-to-medium loads. PET (polyester) is significantly stronger with better tension retention, making it the preferred choice for heavier loads where PP might elongate or fail.

For light-duty PP with plastic buckle seals, hand application is sometimes sufficient. For most warehouse applications, a hand tensioner and sealer or combination tool is recommended. Battery-powered tools are available for high-volume operations.

Yes — PET is widely used as a steel alternative. It’s lighter, easier to handle, safer (no sharp cut edges), and provides comparable tensile strength for most applications. Steel is reserved for the most extreme loads.

We stock the most common widths — typically 12mm, 16mm, and 19mm — across all materials and gauges. Contact our team for specific requirements.
