A little bit about us. APS Packaging was founded by the Bowes family in 2000 to make advanced packaging, pallets and crates for North Devon manufacturers, and the family are still leading the business today. From the beginning, they assembled a team of professionals with strong backgrounds in the packaging and timber manufacturing sectors.

APS was initially set up to fulfil the rising demand for locally made, top-quality wooden pallets and bespoke crates by North Devon manufacturers and it soon began to expand and fulfil demand for pallets, crates, packaging and contract packing throughout the Westcountry, across the UK and Export Markets.

Our People have always been a key aspect from day one. Today we have an experienced and skilled work force, many have been part of our journey for over 20 years, and we recognise and value our people. Our people – APS Packaging

How APS came to be

APS Packaging started in 2000 with a straightforward idea: North Devon's manufacturers were buying pallets from a long way away, and a local maker who understood their products could do it better. The Bowes family set the business up at Bideford, hired people from the timber and packaging trades, and built the first pallets for firms within a few miles of the factory.

The site has grown to 300,000 square feet on Chubb Road. Two 300-pallet drying kilns were added so heat treatment for export could be done in-house rather than sent away, and we registered under the UK Wood Packaging Material Marking Programme as FC0542. Optimising saws and CNC machines replaced hand cutting for the volume work. A fleet of our own HGVs took over delivery across the South West, because a pallet delivered by our own driver arrives in better shape than one thrown around a network.

Crates and cases followed pallets, then export packing, then the protective packaging that goes inside. Today the range runs from a single bespoke crate for a machine going to the other side of the world to thousands of pallets a month for a food producer up the road. The family still leads the business and most of the management team have been here for well over a decade.
